Checklist:
we’ll need to find out the provincial waiting list when it comes to organ transplants, specifically w. living donor organs?
ontario/beadonor.ca turned up a registration toolkit. so if ontario has one, other provinces may have them as well. and since it’s through the government site, it’s a lot more official and will have pulling power. keep in mind you’re applying fundraising skills to organ donation. let’s put some links up here for ontario specifically.
https://beadonor.ca/drives https://www.giftoflife.on.ca/resources/pdf/Workplace_Registration_Drive_Toolkit.pdf
https://register.transplant.bc.ca/ - this is the general website for british columbia organ donation, but is there a specific one? google the province & living organ donation.
i googled british columbia living donor program and it gave me several links, like this: http://www.transplant.bc.ca/organ-donation/living/kidney-donation
as a follow up to that, living organ donation is basically the liver or kidney, as you’ll see here: http://www.transplant.bc.ca/organ-donation/living
on that page was an interesting path to get to the reimbursement program: https://kidney.ca/britishcolumbia/loderp
You’ll need to figure out what exactly this campaign is. So I’m going to pull the notes from the word document so far and place them here while I figure it out.
Amateur Athletics Outreach
Idea:
We want to be able to connect with every amateur athletic organization to let them know what we’re trying to do.
Contacting them first seems like the best approach, but you want something up/cohesive on the website so that it’s pretty clear what the mission of this is.
You first have to state the situation – you have a brother with Stage 4 Liver Cirrhosis & you’re looking for a living liver donor for him.
What you also realized is that you’re going to be doing so much outreach looking for a living liver donor for him and encounter people who may not be suitable for him.
But they’re suitable for someone.
What’s the name of the program? Something that ties into athletics. Foot forward or momentum.
I think we can also enlist theatre and dance companies (You have to have some kind of athletic ability or constitution to be able to deal with that) This way, it expands your base in terms of the WHO you’re reaching out to.
We put up a contact form. It’s standard information in terms of name and email address but nothing else (nothing else is needed) You don’t need to know blood type – you make sure they know that they should be prepared to know their blood type, but some people genuinely don’t know, so we might do a little extra work on that, or can just let them know ‘if you need help to get in touch with a health care practioner, let us know and we’ll find you one (in case you don’t have a family doctor)
We do the heavy lifting and connect you with the living donor program in your area. We do not want to be gathering any data – the more data you gather, the less it looks legit. We’re more about facilitation.
If you want to run a testing campaign with your local club or organization, we help out with that.
On the squarespace, the contact page template looks better – you can edit fields. You can add images and the video.
I think it’s not the worst idea to change the homepage if you’re going to do this, and make this a major emphasis and make it a little more sleek.
How would you feel if you were able to give the gift of life to someone while you’re still here, to know that you could save the life of someone else & trust that you would have a long life of your own?
How would you feel to be able to save someone’s life & still be able to live a long, healthy life of your own?
Try to enlist as many organizations as possible. Ask them to do something – what is that something? Be very clear in your mission.
Sign up 1000 potential living liver donors. Why save just one life when you have the opportunity to save many.
How does it work.
Anyone interested just logs in, fills out their name and email address – nothing more.
In return, we contact them back with all the information as to who they can sign up or be tested with.
Exercise:
Say you’re accessing the website for the first time, and you’ve heard about this program - what do you want to see/what do you think you should see?
